Steve Wilson
Musician, Songwriter, Engineer, Producer, Luthier
Steve Wilson is a multi-faceted force in bluegrass and roots music, known for his work as a banjo player, recording engineer, producer, and instrument builder. With a career that bridges stage, studio, and workshop, Wilson has earned a reputation for authenticity, tone, artistry and craftsmanship at every level of the music-making process.
As a producer and engineer, Wilson has become known for delivering powerful, radio-ready recordings rooted in modern and traditional bluegrass sounds. While his credits during this eligibility period include projects for The Creekers, Red Camel Collective, Tidalwave Road, Leona, Shawn Lane, Richard Bennett, Wilson Banjo Co. and others, he has harnessed the ability to diversify his skill throughout all genres of music. While he may record bluegrass and Americana music one day, blues and jazz the next, then maybe country, rap or rock the following week, all of those sounds and experiences can foster future deliberations and final decision making on arrangements and production in the studio.
The crisp, clean, clear sound of Steve's recordings has been pointed out time and time again in music reviews, solidifying that he has achieved his goal of creating a unique sound that stands alone against the mass number of engineers that were born post-Covid.
Wilson has served as the lead Engineer and Producer for Pinecastle Records since 2018, recording projects for a great number of the label artists including Dale Ann Bradley, Gena Britt, Jim Hurst, Flashback, The King James Boys and more, many of whom he continues to work with today.
Wilson, along with wife Melanie Wilson of Wilson Pickins Promotions, operates Oakway Music House, a full-service recording and artist development company built to support independent musicians. Designed as a modern distribution and production hub, Oakway Music House provides recording, producing, distribution, and radio servicing—helping artists bring their music from concept to audience with clarity and professionalism.
More recently, Steve Wilson recorded and produced the runaway sensation RIVER RAT for The Creekers, who were subsequently signed to Warner Records, Nashville for a sophomore record. Their single "Tennessee" became a viral social media hit and the band is packing stadiums and theaters nationwide with their Kentucky brand of progressive jam-grass. Warner Records hired Steve to record the follow up album to retain the same sought after sound that helped make The Creekers one of the hottest rising bands in the genre.
Year after year, Steve Wilson continues to raise the bar on the quality of the sound we hear on our favorite radio stations like SiriusXM Bluegrass Junction, where his recordings achieved multiple weeks at number one on the Top Plays list during the eligibility period. Program hosts look forward to receiving tracks recorded and produced by Steve because they know the quality will exceed their expectations and please their listeners.
